Exact same situation here, but add extreme heat to the equation and I don’t have A/C. Sometimes it makes me wonder is the boating life worth it.

We've been getting rain throughout the week and hoping that changes soon...

It actually happened once, back in the 1960's, with a small boat spilling out as the tub was approaching the bottom of the lift. Luckily no one was hurt and ever since then, they have an additional locking mechanism that is put in place every time the lift/lowering process commences.

We've been getting rain, rain and more rain. So much so that the lake level hasn't even dropped yet - normally would have seen a drop of 5 or 6" by this time . . .

There are a number of marinas on Lake Simcoe that can accommodate a 40' boat, but not all of them are able or willing to provide good service for their customers. I would strongly suggest driving through a few and talking to the current customers to get their impressions of the management, as well as the services provided. Good luck in your search!

I mentioned to Anchor Girl that I should just pull our boat ahead to be out in the open for a good wash 😅

Yes, a covered slip has its advantages, as well as some drawbacks.

We were safe and there was no damage, so that's a good thing. That said, it would have been nice if Boogaboo was out in the open to get a thorough rinsing 🫧

Ya, both a tornado watch alert during this one 🌩️🌪️🌩️ Happily, no damage reported close by, apart from a few tree limbs knocked down.

When I was a (younger) kid, we got hit with similar conditions out on the lake on the houseboat (see my 'Our Old Boats' series for a glimpse of that tank; Our Old Boats: ruclips.net/p/PLKhjT5kr2l2HPFsSYgoKENzZJCQg5gCf3 ). A scary proposition, with rain so hard it was coming through the sliding door frame and whiteout conditions from sideways rain that we came within feet of colliding with another boat that was caught up in the situation! A lady friend of the family was actually on her knees praying that we get through the storm 😳 Alas, once it passed, and the sun came out, I discovered that the potatoes on the built-in BBQ were cooked to perfection - although most of the charcoal brickettes had blown away in a hail of flame and smoke during the height of the storm. Yup, a scary day on the water, but no injuries or damages, so all good...

hahaha this story makes me laugh even though I’m sure it was quite scary in the moment. the crazy thing is the sound of thunder over the water, magnified. better days ahead for your crew of four I’m sure.

I don't have that on this boat, but it is equipped with an automatic Halon flame suppression system.

I'm guessing you are referring to the breaker on the shorepower pedestal, as opposed to the onboard breaker, correct? If so, sounds like an issue with the connection on shore (at your dock). If so, could be that either your boat is temporarily drawing too much power from the pedestal. That can be caused by a combination of air conditioner kicking in at the same time as the water heater, or another high draw appliance at the same time. Despite the 30 amp advertised breaker, if the power actually reaching the power pedestal from shore has too much load, it can still trip the breaker. At our last marina, that was a constant battle with some of the power pedestals, as they really didn't have enough potential current reaching them and if a neighboring boat had a big load on the circuit, it would shut everyone down in a stretch of 3-6 boats. Another issue might be a faculty receptacle or shorepower cable leading to/from the power pedestal. I've been meaning to produce a video looking at how a rusty plug or cable can not only cause this type of issue, but be a serious fire hazard. I might to that one this weekend, as we're looking at straight rain through till Sunday now 🙄

@eternitysshore That one should be left to a knowledgable professional to troubleshoot, as the cause could be coming from something as simple as a weak breaker that needs swapping out, or something internal in the A/C unit such as a bad capacitor, etc.. might even be a faulty thermostat that is calling for too much extended load. . . ?

Hi Raymond, good to learn that you'll be experiencing the TrentSevernWaterway by boat this year! That said, I'm unfamiliar with any houseboat rentals operating out of Peterborough, but I am quite familiar with the area. Given that you only have six days to travel (3 there and 3 back), you'll find that your options for destinations are quite limited. If heading upstream (more or less northbound), you should be able to reach Lakefield or a little farther, perhaps Burleigh Falls. A great marina at Lakefield, but be sure to book a slip ahead of time. Burleigh Falls is a pretty spot to spend a night at the lock. If you were to head downstream (more or less southeast), you would have a day's worth of travel to get to Hastings, which would be the first practical overnight destination going that way. It's a long trip down the Otonabee River and across Rice Lake, but very pretty. Whichever way you go, be sure to add an extra day of travel into your itinerary to account for weather delays, etc.. Have fun!!

Correct. The easy way to remember which side to keep the bouys/day markers on is with the saying 'Red, right, return'. And right of way is, in most cases, with the approaching vessel maintaining the 'stand on' position if the pilot sees the green starboard light in the vessel he/she is approaching. That said, there are situations where the less maneuverable vessel maintains the right of way, an example being a sailboat if moving under sail.

I'll take what we get. At this point in my life, any day on the boat is a good one...

Good to hear that you've had a few days out so far. For us, it's only been the one (short) run with the kitties a couple of weeks ago. Had a really strong storm blow through on Thursday night - video to follow - but thankfully no damage. Looks like summer is gonna hit us hard starting this week! 🥵

Have been out on small run on Missouri River at Omaha have a 1999 290 Sundancer

I haven't had one of those in years! Gonna have to ask Anchor Girl to make me one when we're away on holidays 🙂
